About ClearVerdict
ClearVerdict is an independent chemical safety database. Our mission: make it easy to verify the safety claims printed on everyday products — starting with cookware.
Why We Built This
Walk into any cookware store and you'll see “PFOA-Free” labels on almost every non-stick pan. Consumers interpret this as “safe.” It's not — it means a specific manufacturing chemical was phased out in 2013. The PTFE coating (which belongs to the PFAS family of forever chemicals) is still there.
This kind of label confusion is widespread, deliberate, and harmful. We built ClearVerdict to cut through it: one place, plain verdicts, evidence shown.
Our Principles
Evidence-First
Every verdict is driven by publicly available manufacturer data, regulatory compliance records, and peer-reviewed research. We cite our sources.
No Affiliate Bias
We do not sell cookware, run affiliate links, or accept brand sponsorships. Our "SAFE" rating is never for sale.
Radical Transparency
Our confidence score deductions are shown on every product page, so you can see exactly why we are (or aren't) confident in a verdict.
Conservative by Default
When evidence is ambiguous, we err toward CAUTION. A brand's inability to prove safety is itself a signal.
Our Scoring Methodology
Each product receives a Confidence Score (0–100). It starts at 100 and deductions are applied for gaps in evidence: no third-party lab report (−15 pts), undisclosed coating composition (up to −35 pts), misleading branding (up to −25 pts), and others.
